These rugs are the fruits of one of the most rewarding projects that we have done so far. We purchase this wool at shearing from Jennifer Philips' Gansevoort Farm in Germantown, NY. Jennifer Phillips is a professor at Bard College and she runs a graduate and undergraduate program studying the beneficial affects of grazing sheep on depleted land. Her farm was a junk yard, and now it is a verdant paradise. The wool is shipped from her farm after shearing over to Still River Mill in Connecticut where they wash the raw fleeces in castille soap, turn them into roving, and weave the roving into 3 x 5 feet rugs.
The rugs from the April 2016 shearing are just coming off of the looms now, so you will enjoy the product of many months of work.
